SpeedWave
Read faster at a pace that keeps comprehension
Welcome to SpeedWave! 🌊 SpeedWave shows text one word (or one short phrase) at a time, always in the same spot on the screen. This technique is called RSVP, Rapid Serial Visual Presentation. Your eyes don't have to travel along the lines, so it can feel effortless, and you decide exactly how fast the words arrive. Faster isn't automatically better, though. Most people read comfortably at about 200–300 words per minute. Reading research shows a clear speed–accuracy trade-off: as speed goes up, comprehension goes down, and with RSVP it tends to drop noticeably somewhere above 250–350 words per minute. Claims of reading 500–1000 words per minute with full comprehension aren't supported by the evidence. A few tips to get the most out of it. Start around 250–300 WPM and speed up only while you still follow the text easily. Keep smart pauses on: they give extra time at punctuation and to long or rare words. If you lose the thread, jump back to the start of the sentence, because re-reading is part of understanding. Take short breaks: staring at one spot makes you blink less, which tires your eyes. And now and then, check that you can sum up what you just read. Use higher speeds for skimming familiar or light material, and slow down for anything you need to study or remember.
